RUN AWAY

My project intends to develop an innovative biomechanical device to prevent and manage athletes shin splints, providing continuous pain relief and recovery support before, during and after performance. As an athlete who has consistently struggled with shin splints, I recognised a widespread need particularly when competing for Australia in Canada in 2025, where 80% of my 14–19-year-old squad experienced the same injury. With limited effective treatment options available, I’m developing a compression sock featuring active cooling technology and interchangeable supportive insoles for spike shoes, reducing pain, enhancing stability, and preventing further injury so athletes are not restricted by preventable setbacks.

What do you think?

I am seeking direct collaboration with biomedical designers & industry professionals to technically develop and refine the active cooling system within my compression sock. Specifically, I require expertise in thermoregulation technologies, material properties, and integration methods to ensure the cooling mechanism is effective, durable, and safe for athletic performance. Additionally, I need guidance in formulating and manufacturing performance grade gel components for the interchangeable insoles, including advice on shock absorption, pressure distribution, and long-term wear resilience. Finally, I am seeking support from textile engineers experienced in compression fabrics to advise on graduated compression mapping, material selection, and fabrication techniques to ensure biomechanical accuracy and optimal muscular support within my design.
